I do not think the self is a simple solid entity sitting somewhere behind experience. It looks more like a construction that stabilizes continuity, memory, accountability, and social coordination.
That does not make it unreal in the childish sense. It makes it instrument-like. Useful enough that life would fracture without it. Misleading enough that people become confused the moment they treat it as something final and indivisible.
If you reject that, define the self without poetry. What exactly is it, and what remains of it when memory, attention, mood, and identification all shift?
