The claim is simple, but the consequences are enormous.
If the claim is true, then thoughts, emotions, memory, identity, imagination, mystical experience, and the sense of being a self are all ultimately products of physical processes.
If the claim is false, then materialism may be missing something fundamental about reality.
The defender must explain how consciousness can arise from matter.
The destroyer must explain why this relationship does not necessarily imply production.
