Kindness is sometimes praised precisely when it keeps something necessary from being said. What gets called maturity, patience, or compassion can also be an unwillingness to risk tension.
The short-term feeling is softer. The long-term consequence can be distortion. I do not distrust kindness, but I do want to know what it is protecting and what it may be postponing.
