Some standards come from care for quality. Others come from the wish to keep life manageable, exposure low, and uncertainty at a distance. On the surface they can sound almost identical.
Standards that serve quality usually sharpen life. Standards that mainly protect the self tend to narrow it. The difference shows in whether the standard opens a person toward something better or mostly keeps friction, surprise, and embarrassment away.
Which of your standards still serve quality, and which ones may be keeping reality at a safer distance than necessary?
